Google AdWords help in running Ads on Google or Google partner websites.
You can choose to show your Ads as display network Ads in mobile apps, in banners or side bars of websites etc.
This way, many people can use Google Ads for small businesses. In case you have a physical store, you can choose to show your Ads via Google’s Display Ads platform.
Now, let’s see how to run Google Display Ads.
How to run Google Display Ads
Just like we did for the Google Search Ads, we will follow the same method to run Google Search Ads.
- Click on the Blue Plus sign in your Campaigns dashboard to start a new campaign in your Google AdWords account.
- Select the campaign goal for your Google Ads marketing
Here, you can select 5 out of 6 campaign goals that you can see in the image above.
There are a lot of Google Ads for small business that you can make from these campaign goals.
For instance, let’s choose the Brand awareness and reach campaign goal.
In the brand awareness and reach campaign goal, we can either run a Display Ad or a Video Ad.
After that, just like Google Search Ads, we will have to enter the website for which we are running Google Display Ads.
Once you enter the website’s address, click on the Save and Continue button.
This is how your Campaign screen would look like once you have entered the website address.
On the top side, you will see your Campaign Goal and the type of your Campaign – Display or Video.
Below that, you can enter your Campaign name. In the Google Search Ads blog, we have told you the best practices to writing a campaign name.
After that you need to specify the locations on which you wish to show your Ads.
Select the locations to target
In the locations section, you can select all those locations where you think you can have the most business from. So, you have to leverage locations in the first priority.
After that comes the language. You already know how language is considered on Google Ads. In case you don’t know, read our Google Search Ads blog to know how Google considers languages.
When you understand how Google considers language in Google Ads.
Now comes the bidding.
Bidding in Google Display Ads
As we have selected the Brand awareness and reach campaign goal, we can optimize our campaign’s bidding for:
So basically, Google will charge you for every 1,000 impressions on your Ads.
Now comes the budget.
Here, you have to enter the amount you wish to pay for your Ad.
Then comes Ad rotation.
Now, if you enable Ad rotation, then Google will show that Ad more often that performs better.
Next comes Ad Scheduling. In case you want to run your Ads on specific times, then Ad scheduling is recommended. Suppose you want to run your Ads in the night, then you can do that as well by selecting those specific time zones.
Then comes Frequency capping.
Here, people who are learning Google Ads for small business, they can take this step into consideration. It even applies to Display network Ads in Google Ads.
So, the Frequency capping will let Google know how many times does it need to show your Ads to the people in the number of days you wish to.
For example, you can choose to show your Ad to someone 3 times in 1 day or 7 times in 2 days. So, it depends on you however you wish to implement that.
Then select the Ad group bidding. Here, you have to define how much you are willing to pay per 1000 views.
For instance, we entered INR 10 per viewable CPM bid.
Let’s see, out of 10B+ impressions, how much can we get for INR 10.
Google has given us Average vCPM and Impressions for this budget. Now, you might have seen how we can a lot of impressions at such a low budget, right?
This is also one of the reasons why people complain that Google Ads on my website are paying me less. That’s the reason why you are getting paid less with AdSense. That’s also one of the reasons why people are preferring other native advertising platforms like Taboola etc.
Creating a Google Display Ad
Once you scroll down, you’ll see a box that says, “New Ad.” Click on it to add creatives. Here, make sure that your Ad creative is less than 150 kb in size.
Now, here’s the tricky part. You need to upload images of that size which Google supports.
As per Google’s recommendations, the sizes of images must be of the following:
Now, you can click on the Plus sign to add a new image of the sizes as provided in the above image.
After this, you can either Add these images to an Ad group or directly create a Campaign.
On clicking Add to Ad Group, you can add more images in different Ad groups and when you are satisfied with it, you can directly create a Campaign.
On clicking Create Campaign button, you’ve successfully created a Google Display Ad.
Once you’re done with this, you’ve successfully created a display Ad.
In the Google Ads dashboard, you can see the statistics of the performance of your Ad.
Now that we are done creating our Google Display Ad campaign, let’s know some things that nobody would tell you.
Here, we’ll see how to optimize your Google Display Ads.
How to optimize Google Display Ads
There are a lot of things that you can do if you are running Display Ads. The very first thing that you have to do is to:
Optimize your Ad for all the platforms
Doesn’t matter if your target audience is watching your Ad on mobile phone or a computer, you can’t afford to lose those people’s attention when it comes to Google’s Display Advertising.
Now, here you have to keep in mind that you don’t want users to make extra efforts while seeing your Ads.
You need to understand that people won’t see your Ads. A lot of people use Ad blockers to keep themselves away from Ads. But, on the other hand, there are some people who don’t use Ad blockers.
So, for such people, we want to gather as much attention as possible. In today’s world on the internet, the costliest thing is not money. It is getting someone’s attention and their time. So the Google Ads Marketing with Display Ads is one of the best options.
Use retargeting for better results
The Google Display Ads are mostly charged on Cost Per View. So here you must use a psychology that people who view your Ads must know about your brand beforehand.
Now if someone knows about your brand from some time, then they can give you better results.
Now, in case you are looking for Google Ads for small business. Then also it is highly recommended to run Google Display Ads in a very targeted location where you think that people know about your business.
Create Ads in all formats
You really wouldn’t want to miss anyone’s attention, right? You may want to show Display networks Ads in mobile apps or so. You must aim to create Display Ads on Google’s all platforms and placements. Whether it’s a banner or a sidebar Advertisement, you can’t miss out anyone’s attention by not making an image of the dimensions as asked by Google.
Don’t opt for Search Network with Display Opt In
You might be very fascinated at first by seeing the Search Network with Display Opt In function. But, should you be using it?
As per some experts, “Google allocates most of your budget in the search network only and the leftover is distributed in the Display Ads.”
Now, Google says that they learn what’s working for you and what’s not by distributing your budget in both of these platforms. But, the truth is that most of our clients realized that their CTR reduced drastically with this method.
Why? Because if you are choosing Google Ads Marketing’s Display Network, then at least have something that’s visual. Make something so catchy that attracts your audience’s attention.
So, this was it about how to create Google Display Ads and other than that, how to optimize your Google Display Ads.
